The Smart Ag Ecosystem at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is focused on accelerating the progress and innovation needed to grow Canada’s ag industry — and the Olds College Smart Farm is at the heart of it all. The Smart Farm has grown to include 3,600 acres of farmland, infrastructure, and staff who are experienced in ag tech research and development.
The purpose of the Smart Farm is to implement the world's best digital agriculture technologies for crop and livestock production; improve farming operations and efficiencies through smart technologies and practices; and utilize technologies for world-class education, demonstration and applied research.
During this tour, we will drive around the Smart Farm to discuss how it started, how it operates, what applied research projects the College is working on, and what facilities support the Smart Farm. You will see how research projects are integrated into the farming operations to help producers make informed decisions about implementing technology in their own operations.
You will also get out in the fields to hear about specific research in the areas of crop production, livestock production, environmental stewardship and technology integration.
The tour will include presentations from researchers on autonomous agriculture equipment for broadacre crop production, in-field crop research with small plots trials and full-field commercial scale investigations, livestock research including grazing management and pasture productivity, environmental stewardship, smart ag applied research, and digital and precision agriculture.
