Diversified Agriculture and Irrigation in Southern Alberta pre-tour

Irrigation has opened the door in southern Alberta for many different crops that would have never survived these traditionally dry areas of Canada.

Decades of research, innovation, and development has gone into creating this world of southern Alberta agriculture, and visitors to our Diversified Agriculture and Irrigation in Southern Alberta will get a first-hand look.

From the far stretching aqueducts, to crop and livestock production of Brooks - Newell Region, to the research facilities of Lethbridge College, this is a great chance to see the power of irrigation and the 60+ crops that would not be found growing without it.

With local irrigation experts on the bus, there will be no shortage of information and learning opportunities, said tour organizer, Craig Lester.

“It'll be a great two days to showcase…the strength of sustainable practices that can come from irrigation, crop production, and livestock production.”

With many visitors from dry countries and water sustainability being such a big issue in the world today, Lester knows there will be ideas and innovations that people can take home with them.

“In agriculture, we're always building and growing things, so taking ideas, taking them back and adapting them and then growing the ideas. We’re all stronger together, so that sharing of information is important.”

We are grateful to our platinum sponsors of this pre-tour: The Brooks – Newell Region, Eastern Irrigation District and the City of Brooks.
